Aileen Wuornos made a living as a sex worker on Florida highways. In 1989 she had robbed, shot and killed a trucker that decided to pick her up on the highway. After this killing she was on to kill five other men. The first and second shootings were used with the same gun, but before the second body could be identified, the third victim was found. By November 1989, four other men were found as a result of a shooting. But her and her love were on the road and they could never find her. When all of the murders seemed so much alike and they were only happening a few months after another, people started getting ideas. People starting turning her in because they knew it was her, and she eventually got caught. They started to question her about all of these shootings. By that time the police had recieved four calls identifying that Wuornos was guilty of all four shootings. The detectives arrested both women in January 1991, Aileen and Tyria Moore. Wuornos confessed to six of the killings, all allegedly performed in self-defense. After trial, Aileen was pronounced guilty and sentenced to death. While in prison she would read the bible, created drawings, and help others with their problems as if she never had any herself. She also started writing about her life as well. On October 9, 2002, her life was ended by lethal injection. Aileen Wuornos was then considered to be America's first woman serial killer. Her story was later turned into a film named Monster in 2004. Aileen talked to interviewers and she gave them clues about serial killers and now since this case it is easier to identify serial killers. They use cases like this everyday.
